SUNDAY RACING
Sunday afternoon racing is such a tradition in yacht clubs worldwide. This painting portrays Sunday Sailing in Mooloolaba Queensland. Mudjimba Island (or Old Woman Island) is used as a marker to sail around from the starting mark at Mooloolooba. Mt Coolum can be admired by the crew hiking out on the side of the boat.
This painting features boats sailing upwind and downwind and one is goosewinged. I love the challenge of setting and dousing a spinnaker. It can go spectacularly right or devastingly wrong! I enjoy the process and teamwork it takes to fly a spinnaker and have it set for maximum performance.
It is a Tryptich with a landmark featured on each piece – Point Cartwright with its lighthouse and the mystery of Mudjimba Island and Mt Coolum. Each painting measures 43 cm x 62 cm so altogether with a gap of say 5 cm will span a space of 1.4 m.
